Hiking with a view – day trips in the Hochschwarzwald

There’s something to suit every type of hiker, regardless of how much time you have. The landscape in the Hochschwarzwald is enchanting all year round. Admire the awakening of nature in spring or enjoy the shady hiking trails and airy breeze on hot summer days. In autumn, the orange-red deciduous trees contrast to the dark evergreen fir trees and in the cold months, you can walk through a winter wonderland and enjoy the spectacular view from the mountain tops. On some hikes, however, surefootedness is important and please bear in mind that these tours are better in dry conditions as rain makes the rocks slippery whilst ice and snow also make hiking more difficult. You can reach all the starting points of the hike by public transport. The region is well developed for tourism so the public transport runs well. Hinterzarten or Schluchsee are great starting points for your day trips. In both towns, you will find several accommodation options and a good train connection to Freiburg.
