The Oise and Vexin loop is not a cycle route in itself but follows a famous long-distance route, the Avenue Verte London-Paris, which links the capital cities of England and France. On the French section, between Saint-Germer-de-Fly and Cergy-le-Haut, the trail splits into two variants, which can be combined into a 247-kilometre (154 mi) loop through the Vexin and Oise regions.
In this Collection, I invite you to explore this loop over four stages. From Cergy-le-Haut, you first plunge into the heart of the French Vexin Regional Nature Park and its charming little villages. Next, the Epte Valley takes you into Oise. After a stopover in Beauvais, nature takes over again in the Forest of Halatte and the Oise-Pays de France Regional Nature Park.
Between the natural landscapes, you’ll encounter towns that are steeped in history, like Senlis and Chantilly. You'll come across several monuments that occupy a special place in France's heritage. The Villarceaux estate, Château de Gisors, the historic commune of Bresles, and Saint-Germer-de-Fly Abbey are just some of the many sites you'll pass.
The stages range from 55 to 70 kilometres (34 - 43 mi), so you can immerse yourself in the local nature and culture at your own pace. There are plenty of refreshment points and accommodation options along the route.
Cergy-le-Haut has a railway station served by the RER A and by trains from Paris Saint-Lazare. The route is therefore easily accessible from the capital.
The countryside in Oise and Vexin has a relatively mild climate all year round. You can undertake the Tour in any season but beware of occasional icy conditions in winter.
Although most of the roads are asphalt, you’ll come across several dirt tracks. The terrain is relatively flat and a mountain bike is perfectly suited. Don't forget to take a few tools with you for minor repairs.
I wish you a wonderful discovery of the Oise and Vexin on the roads of the Avenue Verte. If you'd like to do the whole itinerary between London and Paris, check out Amy's Collection on komoot: komoot.com/collection/888020.
