    Moel-Ddu 31.7.20

Just a few kilometres north of Porthmadog is Llyn Cwmystradllyn and nearby Moel Ddu, another Marilyn at 553m. After a hard 22km yesterday I decided to do this the quickest way possible. It didn’t work out quite as easy as I had hoped!

After not being able to find any parking on the Eastern

Moel Hebog 783m, Moel Yr Ogof 655m and Moel Lefn 638m

This was a third hot day on the trot and it was a cracker. The hike started from the main car park in beautiful Beddgelert Ddu (£3-4hrs £6 all day to midnight. No toilets on site but there is at the railway station).

Getting away at around eight am

  4. Moel Y Dyniewyd 382m,

    Beddgelert, Snowdonia (Marilyn).

    Summary

After four months of being locked down here we go again. A reallyyy wet and windy bushwhacking day around beautiful Beddgelert. Welsh Marilyn no 156/158 done. A 11km 600m height gain day.

The views were nothing to write home about today but

    Yr Aran 747m, Snowdon.

    Summary

Okay, the last one today. Yr Aran is a tad isolated on the Southern edge of the Snowdon Massif but it’s a proper jagged rocky little mountain peak.

Not as nice a day as yesterday with the clouds obscuring any views from the summit but any dry day in Wales is a blessing!

I parked up at the amply sized railway station car park in Rhyd Ddu (£3-4hrs £6 all day to midnight. Toilets on site). If you don’t want to pay there are small lay byes on nearby on the B4418 on the way out of Rhy Ddu right outside the village and at Llyn y Dywarchen.

    Summary

Well this was a solitary Nuttall on the Eastern fringe of the Snowdon massif done from Pen Y Pass car park.* No 188/189.

A three hour jaunt to do 10.5ks with 540m of stunning height gain. The spring weather was stunning and perfect for photos, even with

    Carnedd Y Filiast, Snowdon (5xNuttalls)

This route starts and finishes in Nant Peris where there is a copious pay and display car park with toilets. £5 all day rate. The day started well when a guy asked me to pass some toilet paper to him under his cubicle door. I said ‘No’ and another toileteer guffawed

The weather forecast for today was clouds and a bit of drizzle but still not bad. Parking was by way of Llyn Padarn lakeside car park in Llanberis. I didn’t take a picture because basically it is quite huge with plenty of room. However

  11. The Glyders Horseshoe, Ogwen Valley, North Wales (4XNuttalls).

A phenomenal day doing ‘The Glyders horseshoe’...four nuttalls en route (all done before) Glyder Fach 984m, Castell Y Gwynt 972m, Glyder Fawr 1,001m and Y Garn 947m. A perfect weather day, superb route and great company, five of us. God’s

  12. Gallt yr Ogof and Y Foel Goch, Glyders, Snowdonia (Nuttalls)

Today the the third baking day on the trot was a planned much shorter route just to take in Gallt Yr Ogof 763m and Y Foel Goch 805m. We parked at Gwern Gof Isaf just off the A5 road in the Ogwen valley. Friendly staff and a £2 all day parking

  13. The one and only Tryfan

No trip to the Ogwen Valley would be complete without a rocky scramble up Tryfan’s North Ridge. Especially when the autumn weather has been as glorious as this week.

We were staying at Gwern Gof Isaf campsite so had a nice easy 2km walk in from there and skirted the bottom of Tryfan

  14. Pen Y Helgi Du 833m and Pen Llithrig Y Wrach 799m, Carneddau, North Wales.

This was a stunning blue sky day out on an okay route but one that did have gorgeous views of the whole Ogwen Valley. Parking was at Gwern Gof Isaf campsite where we were staying. £8 per night to pitch a tent/camper (each) or all

Pen yr Ole Wen 978m, Carnedd Dafydd 1,044m, Foel Meirch 800m, Carnedd Llewellyn 1,064m and Yr Elen 962m.

  16. A lung busting tour of the back end of the Carneddau Range. Drosgol, Bera Bach and Fawr, Foel Fras and a few others. Eight Nuttalls in all (181/190), all done before but not recorded on a gps. A long 25km day with 1,400m of ascent done in 7.5 hours. Not exactly easy terrain this side of the range. Hard

Three more Nuttalls done today in the tad more remote area of the Carneddau. Tal Y Fan 610m, Drum 770m and Pen Y Castell 623m (No 185/190). Nice to do them with a well respected outdoor friend Andy Dawson. It’s a pity it was a see naff all much Welsh weather day so sorry the pictures are not up to much

  18. Craig Eigiau 735m, Carneddau, Snowdonia, Wales (Nuttall).

Today was a circuit up and around remote and rugged Llyn Eigiau just a few kilometres north of Capel Currig. Here Craig Eigiau at 735m stands guard over the lake.

Anyway, the weather sucked a bit and I couldn’t see much above 400m. The accepted

    Summary

Three glorious lumpy Nuttalls done on the Eastern edge of the Carneddau today just North of Capel Curig. It takes the tally now to 187/189.

It was a glorious spring day to do a 14km, 800m height gain day near Llyn

  20. Manod Mawr 661m, MM North Top and Moel Penamnen.

Well here I was in the land of slate and rain parked in a car park in Blainau Ffestiniog in North Wales. Think Kabul without any arabs! I do like the place however, so full of history and the surrounding peaks are really rugged.

Mynydd Nodol 539m, Bala, North Wales (Marilyn)

This is one of those hills I didn’t want to do as there was no real marked route and I was just going by the seat of my pants. You can park on the back lanes but with my Sprinter van I chose not to and parked instead at the large car park at Llyn Celyn dam
